Discovery House
Discovery House is a Calgary based charity that first opened its doors in 1980 and was Calgary’s first long-term shelter for abused women. Emergency shelters have a maximum stay of 3 weeks and second stage shelters such as Discovery House have a maximum stay of up to 1 year. Discovery House provides safe housing and essential support for women and children fleeing domestic violence as they transition out of short-term emergency shelters or who are referred to them.
Since opening, they have helped thousands of women and children fleeing domestic violence.
In 2004 Discovery House secured a 19 unit building with shared community spaces such as a computer room, outdoor courtyard, library and child and youth centre and is still located here to this day. Each unit is fully furnished with secure underground parking and laundry on each floor. The property also has 24 hour security.
60% of their clients are children under the age of 17!
In 2020-21 Discovery house served 617 individuals.

They are a housing management body that operate 477 senior self-contained units across 7 apartment buildings for the Government of Alberta.
An affordable housing provider that owns and operates 180 units across 2 buildings in Bridgeland-Riverside.
1 in 5 Calgarian households are struggling with their housing costs.
Right now, 42,000 households in Calgary are at immediate risk of homelessness.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta supports families seeking vital medical treatment for their seriously ill or injured child. RMHC houses provide a warm compassionate place for families to stay when they need to travel for medical reasons. RMHC Alberta serves approximately 1,100 families each year.
